Some time ago I was in a sewing blue funk, and decided to grab a piece of fabric I liked to make a simple bag.
Tadaaaa!!!!
Sometimes, simple is best :)

More pleated wristlets!
It's been a while since I posted anything recently completed. I haven't been slacking off or anything heheh... Just didn't get a chance to put things up.
I've had several work-in-progress pleated wristlets finally all wrapped up, and I wanted to share them here :)
The pink wristlet was an order from my colleague, while the other two were meant as ready stock. Happily, however, the day after I finished the maroon & green wristlets, H snapped up the maroon piece :)
I actually had another one finished, but I just HAD to meddle with the pattern didn't I? That ended up being pretty unusable hehehe so that's not gonna be put up here...
I've got a few more items to be shared, so till then!

Of pouches and potholders
Yesterday was another good crafting/sewing day. Since I'll be travelling for almost 2 weeks soon, I wanted to cram as much sewing as I can in the time I have left! Next Saturday will be the last Saturday before my trip... Gasp!
Anyway, I had my goals set down for yesterday. I wanted to complete at least 2 more multipurpose pouches (one of which I plan to use as a gift for my just-married staff, to put the wedding card & angpau we collected in), as well as get cracking on some potholders my colleague requested. I was planning to hand quilt the potholders when I travel heheh...
The pouches went over pretty quickly, save for some minor grievances with the machine in the beginning (the more advanced it is, the more delicate *sigh*)
Then I pored over my book again for the potholder effort. Trying to make sense of the pictures and adapting the design & measurements were a bit of a challenge (the book was in Japanese), but I basically winged it when it came to certain parts I wasn't clear on. Just finished whip-stitching them closed today, so I can show them to my frien tomorrow & bring them along for a bit of hand sewing later yeay!
It was a good day!
Now, I have 5 days to think about what else to make next Saturday that I can hopefully bring along for the trip... Too bad I can't sew on the flight!

Envelope pouches for iPhones & Blackberries
I've always wanted to buy a few keyka lou patterns, and I finally bought a couple (the box wallet pouch was the first one I made). This was the first batch of envelope pouches using a keyka lou design, & I love them to bits!!
They're quite easy to make, but I spent more time handsewing the Velcro tabs & decorative buttons than the actual pouch assembly since I opted not to use elastic ties, so I'll need to figure out a better, more efficient way of doing that.
They fit an iPhone or blackberry bold phone, or even business cards if you want :)
Only the blue polkadot one is still available right now... I've got a few more in the works!

Box wallet pouches
I purchased Keyka Lou's patterns for several itty-bitty pouches & tried them out. This is from the first batch :)
I've put them in the shop. They are selling for RM28 per pouch. Perfectly sized for some cards, cash & maybe a small phone... So adorable!

Of pre-cuts, yardage & the end products
I love charm packs & other pre-cuts. I love the fact that pre-cuts gives me an opportunity to have and play with the whole set in a fabric range... otherwise it'll cost me a mini-fortune to buy each piece in each colorway!
This is the first time I'm actually using up one of our pre-cuts... I chose Dream On by Urban Chiks cos of the sunshiny colors :) Made up 4 nine-patch blocks with 6 charm pieces left over for another project. Spent an hour arranging the pieces, but sewing them up was a breeze.... my patchworking has improved I guess, since my seams matched up! Hehehe...
Haven't quite decided what to do with them yet... my options at the moment: 1) make 2 bags, or 4 if they're just the main centerpiece, 2) turn them into a baby quilt, or 3) line them up and make a table runner. Will update what happens to them once they get turned into something :)
One of these days, I plan to make this bag from pre-cuts or patchwork strips, just for variety... for the moment, though, this yardage seems to give that illusion anyway :)

From Saturday to Saturday...

I really like it... the colors are all bright and cheerful, and I felt the process of making it was really fun.

If anyone's interested, the ones with the colorful hearts are RM 25 each, and the green & pink dotty pouches are RM 35 each.
Didn't manage to complete any specific item today, but it was time well spent at the shop - cutting, sewing, and pressing fabrics to be turned into something pretty... I love Saturdays!
Now I've got a few pieces to keep me busy all week till next Saturday :)

Of coasters & pincushions...
I set a silent goal for myself this past week, to sew at least a little bit (1/2 to 1 hr) each night. I had gotten started on these coasters last weekend after working on a wonky log-cabin block (which I'll share once I decide what to do with it :p), and wanted to keep the momentum going.
By Friday, I had these all completed and blind-stiched too... a set of 4 unique, wonky scrappy coasters :) I just love the bright fabrics!

They're even reversible, if you feel like using the other side for a change :) the backing used home dec cotton.

Friday, I finally tried my hand at making a pincushion. When you think about too many patterns that you wanna try, it can actually delay the process of actually making the item itself (very common happening for me :p). In the end I just went with some binding scraps we had in the house and fashioned some patchwork out of them... Whaddaya think?

I'll put all these in the shop for sale... just as soon as I figure out the costing & price :)
All in all, not a bad week right? It's nice to put your hand to something other than customer orders for a change, and enhance your skills in the process :)
Have a good crafting week ahead everyone!

A little something for a girlie girl...
I wish I still had a little girl to dress up... my girl is now more into jeans & tops... dresses, not so much anymore... so sadly, I've lost a muse & model for our dresses hehehe....
My mom & I tried out a new pattern, which we named the Mia dress... its simple, uncluttered design is easy to wear and has a really long shelf life, since the cut is for a 6-12-month-old but can be worn up to 2 years old (or even older!) thanks to the adjustable shoulder ties. It starts out as an ankle-length dress, gradually progressing to a knee-length dress and finally a frilly top. My 6+ year-old daughter can wear it too! I think it looks so cute with a pair of tights/jeans and a cardigan or inner top...

Pretty in pink...

I wondered why I never made more bags of this particular color combo... to me, it's strikingly pretty & sweet, and so far my dear daughter's the only one with this bag... I think maybe cos I have really limited amounts of the yellow fabric, sayang nak pakai hehehe...
Well, not anymore! I made another one, and it's up for grabs!
It measures 8" in width x 13" in height x 3" in depth, the same size as my daughter's. It's perfect for books and small files (too snug for A4 document files tho, so probably not advisable for that purpose). Easily washable (I've tried it on my other bags and they're not spoiled yet heheh...), just soak in gentle soapy water (preferably those lingerie/silk detergents) and rinse off (please don't wring it!!) and hang to dry...

New - Banana bags!
I'm pretty much self-taught from books when it comes to bag-making, so at this point I've been focused more on making totes compared to other types of bags. My mom, being the more experienced sewist (is there such a word?), is more adventurous... hence the following bags :)

Measurements: 21" x 7" x 7"
Materials: 100% designer American cotton
Price: RM 140 each
Both are available! Get a truly unique piece right now :)

New Fabrics still uncut - Part III
I like this one... can already imagine the lovely tudungs it'll make...
Shades of pink... I'd say it looks nice with a lovely pale pink baju, don't you think so?
This one seriously looks better in real life... tried capturing it using flash and without flash, the pics come out really blaaahhh.... the real colors are something like blue and pale red, not brown/orange...
Another B&W.... very defined smudgy stripes, not zebra-ey like T054...
This one's a favorite too... the orange/yellow is absolutely lovely in real life...

New Fabrics still uncut - Part II
This one's got various shades of dark blue, purple and red all mashed up together... looks very nice in real life...
This is quite a strong design in purply-pink and black...
Black and white needs no intros... the lines are somewhat smudged and more wavy, compared to another B&W I'll upload as well...

This one's a bold one!!! I expect it'll be gorgeous when finished...
As the title says, all still uncut as of this time, so you can request your specific customizations :) If you're too late to give your requirements, you can still get a pretty tudung (first come first served, as always)...

New Fabrics - still uncut!! Part 1
Due to a technical hiccup with Blogger, I only managed to upload 1 pic before the whole process seems to have gotten stuck.... all the new fabrics are still in their newly-bought condition, since I'm still in between mabuk phases... so this is the perfect time for those who wants their tudungs very customized. As usual, first come first served, so drop me a line ok! I'll try to upload the rest (9 more pics!) later tonight or tomorrow, sementara kepala & perut tengah OK skit ni...

Works-in-Progress
Long-overdue entry... I've been tied up with work (it's a crazy time right now), was down with a fever and flu with the rest of my family, and just came back from an out-of-town trip for a cousin's wedding... Now that I have a few minutes to spare, here I am!
I've been working on several items for the past few weeks... unfortunately they remain as WIPs due to the above reasons!!
These are cotton reusable grocery bags, my first attempt at making them. I was tempted by the plain fabric to try stenciling, and splurged a little at the craft store buying fabric paints and brishes, not to mention the books too! The fun part was the books came with ready-to-use stencils, so I got right down to work. I dare say these are completely original and one-of-a-kind, cos I won't be able to replicate the designs again (smudges & all hehehe)! One in blue, one in red...

These are my documents bags, this time in bright colors on black. 2 WIPs there....

These are also document bags, closer to being finished than the others! Just need to make the linings and put the whole bag, lining & straps together... I'm getting there, maybe tonight I can squeeze in some sewing time if I'm lucky!

As for tudungs, the last time I went to the shops, I only found 2 designs that I liked out of the many new fabrics that just came in. This one's already limited by the time I bought it, so I have enough for only 1 scallop... first come first served! SOLD!!
This soft, drapey and flowey jersey is so lovely! I've got 1 scallop with the same jersey for awning, and 1 regular tudung with silvery-grey Shantung silk awning, both still available. The rest of the fabric's already reserved for someone as made-to-order...
So that's it for now! At least the tudungs are completed :) On top of these bags, now I have another bag request to get started on... wish me luck!!
