I enjoy the whole process of trying out the new item's patterns as well as making them for friends, which is actually a nice diversion from making tudungs only... but rest assured that tudungs are still available as ready-made or made-to order! :)
Coming back to my new projects, the latest items I've manage to make last weekend were tissue pouches (surprisingly easy to make! just a bit leceh cos of the small size), a small carry-bag for a colleague as well as a zippered case.
I managed to make 3 tissue pouches from 1 fat quarter... it could have been 4 pouches if I had used the original size given in the book (which I used for the smaller grey pouch in grey), but it felt like a tight fit when I put in the tissue pack... so I enlarged the size by an inch all around, and used normal cotton instead of the heavy cotton I used for the smaller pouch. It was just nice!
This bag hung nicely from the shoulder, and could fit a water bottle and perhaps a tupperware or a book plus other small items like sunglasses case etc. Definitely a challenge, as this one's based on the Cath Kidston pattern but in a larger size with several modifications, and I find this bag more 'fussy' to make as opposed to the others I've made. It's a nice, useful size though and I foresee making a few more in the future...
This one was the most challenging to make!!!! The zipper was a horror to deal with, which was made more difficult as I used a longer zipper cut to size as opposed to one that was exactly the length I needed... I had to sew over the teeth at the end by hand since I didn't want to risk breaking the needle... I like the end result though! Next time I'll make a longer one, with a strap, to function as a wristlet... Imagine having lots and lots of wristlets in multi-colored fabrics according to my taste!!! Yummm....
That's all for now... my current work-in-progress: a couple of document bags for myself and a friend, will be sewing them bit by bit throughout this week... am trying to decide on another pattern to try pulak after this... wanna try making a duffle bag for my kids, but only if I have a suitable fabric... if I get around to buying the zippers, maybe a wristlet or two for further practice... we'll see how it goes...
