New Fabrics still uncut - Part III

I like this one... can already imagine the lovely tudungs it'll make...
T056

Shades of pink... I'd say it looks nice with a lovely pale pink baju, don't you think so?
T057

This one seriously looks better in real life... tried capturing it using flash and without flash, the pics come out really blaaahhh.... the real colors are something like blue and pale red, not brown/orange...

T058

Another B&W.... very defined smudgy stripes, not zebra-ey like T054...
T059

This one's a favorite too... the orange/yellow is absolutely lovely in real life...
T060 - booked/sold
There you go... all the new fabrics we have at the moment... I'll be cutting them up soon, so if you have your preferences, let me know ASAP!!!

New Fabrics still uncut - Part II

This one's got various shades of dark blue, purple and red all mashed up together... looks very nice in real life...

T052

This is quite a strong design in purply-pink and black...

T053

Black and white needs no intros... the lines are somewhat smudged and more wavy, compared to another B&W I'll upload as well...
T054
This one's a bold one!!! I expect it'll be gorgeous when finished...
T055
As the title says, all still uncut as of this time, so you can request your specific customizations :) If you're too late to give your requirements, you can still get a pretty tudung (first come first served, as always)...

New Fabrics - still uncut!! Part 1

Due to a technical hiccup with Blogger, I only managed to upload 1 pic before the whole process seems to have gotten stuck.... all the new fabrics are still in their newly-bought condition, since I'm still in between mabuk phases... so this is the perfect time for those who wants their tudungs very customized. As usual, first come first served, so drop me a line ok! I'll try to upload the rest (9 more pics!) later tonight or tomorrow, sementara kepala & perut tengah OK skit ni...

I'm Back!

It's been more than 1 month since my last post...

I was laid down with a seriously bad case of morning (afternoon and night) sickness, and couldn't keep any food in. Forget about sewing, I could barely sit, let alone be functional at the sewing machine!

Alhamdulillah things seem to be improving right now, and I've got a bunch of new fabbies to work on (which I'll put up in my next post... ampun, technical issues...). So for those waiting to buy or order new tudungs or bags, wait for it ya!

Thanks so much for your support!

Works-in-Progress

Long-overdue entry... I've been tied up with work (it's a crazy time right now), was down with a fever and flu with the rest of my family, and just came back from an out-of-town trip for a cousin's wedding... Now that I have a few minutes to spare, here I am!

I've been working on several items for the past few weeks... unfortunately they remain as WIPs due to the above reasons!!

These are cotton reusable grocery bags, my first attempt at making them. I was tempted by the plain fabric to try stenciling, and splurged a little at the craft store buying fabric paints and brishes, not to mention the books too! The fun part was the books came with ready-to-use stencils, so I got right down to work. I dare say these are completely original and one-of-a-kind, cos I won't be able to replicate the designs again (smudges & all hehehe)! One in blue, one in red...

These are my documents bags, this time in bright colors on black. 2 WIPs there....

These are also document bags, closer to being finished than the others! Just need to make the linings and put the whole bag, lining & straps together... I'm getting there, maybe tonight I can squeeze in some sewing time if I'm lucky!

As for tudungs, the last time I went to the shops, I only found 2 designs that I liked out of the many new fabrics that just came in. This one's already limited by the time I bought it, so I have enough for only 1 scallop... first come first served! SOLD!!

T049 SOLD!!

This soft, drapey and flowey jersey is so lovely! I've got 1 scallop with the same jersey for awning, and 1 regular tudung with silvery-grey Shantung silk awning, both still available. The rest of the fabric's already reserved for someone as made-to-order...

T050 SOLD!!

So that's it for now! At least the tudungs are completed :) On top of these bags, now I have another bag request to get started on... wish me luck!!

Black, White & Pink...

Just completed... Haiza's rush order, with 1 inner pocket. Notice the pretty pink lining? I like! :)

Time's a bit tight this weekend, so couldn't get started on anything else... sempat potong part of a bag je baru... maybe over this next week and during the long weekend (haha, if I'm lucky!) I can be more productive... lots of plans, so little time to carry them out!
If all goes well, I may get several bags done for ready stock soon... watch this space ye!

Made-to-Order Bags - Going, going, gone...

How was your long break? I spent mine quite productively I should say, finishing up these 3 pretty bags...

This one's for Kak Ju... she wanted one for her daughter to bring to school, to fit her sports clothes, books, etc... it's got a slightly shorter handle length by request... I put the stripes horizontally this time. I still love this fabric/color combo!

These two (B&W and blue/green) are for Haiza... but now I gotta make another B&W one cos apparently someone else likes the bag too!!! So wait a while ye babe... luckily I still have enough of the fabric combo. The B&W has a shocking pink lining, very cute!!

This one dah selamat jadi hadiah for someone from Haiza... hope you like the bag!!

These really are cool (if I say so myself heheh), pretty, useful bags... all come with 1 inner pocket big enough to fit an iPhone or similar-sized phone/gadget... now to keep making more (with the vain hope of having enough time to make ready-stocks pulak...) Wish me luck!

New Jerseys in the Works

Hiya All!!

My mom went on a jersey shopping spree, and now we have lots of new fabrics to turn into lovely tudungs :)

This one's made into the usual tudung, but most likely I'll keep one for myself since I last sold off all our grey/black tudungs... code T040...

This one's lovely too!! One is a scallop tudung (with the brownish/beige color as awning), the other is the regular tudung, with blue awning... RM 60 for the scallop, RM 55 for the regular tudung... we also just got some additional fabric in this design, so at most can make 2 more if anyone's interested ye... the ready-made scallop is reserved for my auntie, by the way... T041...

2 regular tudungs, with pale lilac/lavender awning... ALL SOLD... T042...

2 regular tudungs, ALL SOLD... T043...

This cotton jersey is absolutely gorgeous, and no longer in my hands!!! Sold off BOTH pieces, and the shop was out of this fabric already... huwaaaa....

This one's a lovely comfy cotton jersey, turned into a tudung Syria (the outer layer only) and 1 regular tudung... the tudung Syria's only RM 40 ye people... if you wish to request made-to-order ones later, lemme know... T044...

This one was turned into 2 regular tudungs with gold awnings... very nice and light... T045...

For this one, we've got one scallop and one regular each... BOTH SOLD... T046...

I have 1 regular tudung with the same fabric as the printed awning, and another scallop tudung with black awning... RM 55 and RM 60 ye... T047... SOLD

This super-light, smooth jersey was turned into scallop tudungs... 1 with the same fabric as the awning, the other with a black awning... RM 60 each... am extremely tempted to keep one for myself... please please take one off my hand so I don't have to decide which one to keep!! T048... (update: I decided to take the one with the jersey awning, so the black awning is up for grabs ye!)

That's it for now folks! Now I have to get back to my bags pulak... cut so many out already, need to get cracking on the sewing!!

Twin Document Bags

Aren't these cute and colorful???

Twin document bags, with 1 pocket inside... a friend asked for one, and cos I really like the fabric and needed one bag for myself, I made 2!!! The linings are different though... the one for my friend has the same striped lining as the fabric outside, mine has little cars and butterflies on a white background. I really like both, they're so bright and cheery (to counter work stress! Hehehe)...

This one's already at work awaiting delivery to my friend... if you're interested, the price ranges from $35 onwards depending on the fabric used...

Zippered Case, Tissue Pouch and Made-to-Order Bag

My friends and customers ask whether I'm still making tudungs now that I'm trying out different items to sew, and my answer is definitely 'YES'!

I enjoy the whole process of trying out the new item's patterns as well as making them for friends, which is actually a nice diversion from making tudungs only... but rest assured that tudungs are still available as ready-made or made-to order! :)

Coming back to my new projects, the latest items I've manage to make last weekend were tissue pouches (surprisingly easy to make! just a bit leceh cos of the small size), a small carry-bag for a colleague as well as a zippered case.

I managed to make 3 tissue pouches from 1 fat quarter... it could have been 4 pouches if I had used the original size given in the book (which I used for the smaller grey pouch in grey), but it felt like a tight fit when I put in the tissue pack... so I enlarged the size by an inch all around, and used normal cotton instead of the heavy cotton I used for the smaller pouch. It was just nice!

This bag hung nicely from the shoulder, and could fit a water bottle and perhaps a tupperware or a book plus other small items like sunglasses case etc. Definitely a challenge, as this one's based on the Cath Kidston pattern but in a larger size with several modifications, and I find this bag more 'fussy' to make as opposed to the others I've made. It's a nice, useful size though and I foresee making a few more in the future...

This one was the most challenging to make!!!! The zipper was a horror to deal with, which was made more difficult as I used a longer zipper cut to size as opposed to one that was exactly the length I needed... I had to sew over the teeth at the end by hand since I didn't want to risk breaking the needle... I like the end result though! Next time I'll make a longer one, with a strap, to function as a wristlet... Imagine having lots and lots of wristlets in multi-colored fabrics according to my taste!!! Yummm....

That's all for now... my current work-in-progress: a couple of document bags for myself and a friend, will be sewing them bit by bit throughout this week... am trying to decide on another pattern to try pulak after this... wanna try making a duffle bag for my kids, but only if I have a suitable fabric... if I get around to buying the zippers, maybe a wristlet or two for further practice... we'll see how it goes...
Take care, & happy crafting people!

This one's actually purple in color, but the camera couldn't capture the right color.... it's really nice in real life... cotton jersey fabric...

T035 (SOLD)

This one's in various shades of deep pink... dunno how to capture the colors properly argh... also cotton jersey...
T036 (SOLD too)

Multicolored green, brown etc... cotton jersey... T037, light brown/goldy awning... 1 TAKEN, 1 more still available

Same design as above, but in various shades of blue... jersey... T039 - one scallop with printed awning (booked by my MIL), one regular with black awning still available...

New Tudung Style - Scallop/Twist

One of my customers requested the 'Scallop' or 'Twist' tudung... since she's a colleague, and a regular customer, I obliged... she has the honor of being the first customer to get a scallop tudung from Ciklynn's :)

This one's taken, but made-to-orders in this design is possible... just let me know if you prefer this design ye! It does use a bit more fabric that the usual design, so the rate's just a teeny bit higher than the usual :)
I may make some ready stocks in this template as well... look out for the notations in the posts...

New Ready Stocks

Back to tudungs for now... been busy with several custom orders, so not many new ready stocks available. These 3 are newly-completed, and ready for the picking:-

Bags bags bags...

Managed to get several more bags completed recently, using the same template (I wanted to memorize the steps)...

This one was given to my mom-in-law as her birthday present...

This one was made specially for my daughter, cos she wanted a pink bag. At first I thought this would be so nice as her 'mengaji' bag, but she didn't want to use it for that... she's now using the bag for her books and other stuff for 'balik kampung' and 'jalan-jalan'...

I also completed another bag (based on the same design, but with bigger dimensions) for a friend who wanted to use it as a document bag... that was also a present :) Am now somehow open for bag orders as well hehehe... Need to start cracking on the bag orders I've received from my colleagues...

BTW, new jersey fabrics are in, in various colors... have started making several more tudungs on a made-to-order basis... will post those and the other extras up as soon as they're completed ye... the most recent order includes a 'tudung scallop' as well (my 1st attempt at making that), so we'll see how things go...

Latest bag (new pattern)

This is my most recently-completed bag, made using a pattern in another newly-purchased book 'The New Handmade'. Ada sikit rasa stress masa nak siapkan, cos the turning out part was more difficult with this bag since it has fusible interfacing on it, but I kinda like how it turned out. It's a nice enough size for an adult to shoulder- or hand-carry, but also small enough for a child to shoulder-carry (as modeled by my 5 y.o. daughter below).

Because of the interfacing, it's quite stiff enough to stand on its own (without any contents to hold it up). It's big enough to hold a couple of books or magazines (but I'm not sure if it's big enough to be a document bag). The top band is actually green, to match the bag's color scheme, but the light doesn't quite show the color. My good friend wants to order a document bag from me, so if this fits her bill, I'll make another (slightly bigger perhaps) for her...

Once she's seen this, I think I'm gonna give this to my darling daughter for her 'bag mengaji'...

Verdict please? :)

New Items - handmade bags

I've been hankering to try making other handmade items besides tudungs... the first thing that came to mind was, of course, bags!!! I'm a bag-aholic, so sue me hehehe...

Since I never made one before, I pestered my mom to help me make one, a really basic tote without using any patterns... and this was the result:-

I love this bag! The fabric is so bright and cheerful, very suitable for the young and young-at-heart hehehe... of course, it was a very basic bag, so no pockets or buttons or whatever... but someone still wanted it! So it was SOLD to my boss, who wanted to give it to her daughter...

I then went on a book-binge, buying up many books and magazines related to sewing and bag-making, and one of my more recent purchases was the book 'Sew!' by Cath Kidston. The cool thing about the book was, it came complete with everything needed to make the bag on the book cover. As soon as I got the book home, I spent ages trying to decipher the instructions step-by-step.... and finally, TADAAA!!!

Because of this bag, I learned how to make buttonholes using the Singer sewing machine! My comment for this bag, though - the pattern did not indicate a lining, which kinda reduced the appeal of the bag. However, the expanded version of this bag (as a shopper tote) did call for a lining, so I guess the lining-free bag was for those who want a quick, simple bag only.
This one's not for sale though :) But I have had requests to make a similar bag, with a bigger body... will try that one soon then since the demand is there...

Never fear... tudung-making has not stopped... I'm just so excited about making other items as well now :)
